Commentary

January 28, 2015

If you're wondering what happened to Duke's bell tower, Americans chimed in! Hi, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. It's popular to "repurpose" things these days. But not when that thing is an 80-year-old chapel. Duke University found that out this month when it tried to turn its Methodist bell tower into a Muslim minaret. School officials said it was an "exercise in unity"-but that exercise failed miserably when Americans everywhere spoke out. They couldn't believe the preferential treatment Muslims were getting-especially in the wake of the French and Nigerian terror attacks. In the name of diversity, "other religions are getting front row," Reverend Franklin Graham said, "and Christians are being pushed... to the back of the room. And we're the majority!" Real pluralism isn't elbowing out Christianity to make room for minority faiths. It's giving everyone the same right to live and work in accordance to their beliefs -- a right sorely missing for all too many Christians in America today. For more, go to TonyPerkins.com.
